Thoughts on Crush Crush Flower Alpha 1
Crush Crush Flower » Devlog
This is a fun little game and I think there is more I can do:
- Mobile vs Desktop: I think the size of elements and placement of the HUD needs tuning. I'm imagining this as a mobile game in the long run and I think the size of the sprites might not work. This is the opposite problem I had before with the sprites being too big. The power of iteration!
- Sound: I like the background music I created for this one. It's got a nice active feel for an arcade style game. I have a mixed feel for video game music and often turn it off to listen to a record of my choosing. What's the right balance to find there?
- I also like that the robot talks as it works. It might be talking too much. A simple ding is fast and satisfying while his words often gut cut off as he crushes multiple flowers in succession.
- Animation: I had fun with the animation on this so far. I have a bug with the sprite setup where the change in direction between left and right shifts the position a bitt too much. I also want to work on a better animation as the flower gets crushed. I have something in the works.
- More Powerups and Obstacles: I want to add some more challenges in there and have a couple ideas:
- different types of flowers for points and potentially damages - maybe a flower can fight back or needs to be hit more than once
- more obstacles than spikes - maybe a venus flytrap that comes with its own animation
- other powerups - perhaps a scoop to clear away the spikes
Open to other suggestions :)
